Custom Orthotics In Toronto

Our feet support and balance our body weight as we walk, run, exercise, or perform other physical activities. They have a complex structure as each foot contains 26 bones, an intricate blood circulatory system, and many muscles, tendons, and ligaments. With the complex design and vital function of supporting the body, any misalignment strains your body, causing pain and a decreased ability to perform.

Our custom orthotics are specially designed to support your feet and improve walking, running, and performance biomechanics. They alter specific movements to avoid straining your legs and body, which reduces pain and helps your feet and the rest of your body realign.

OUR CUSTOM ORTHOTICS PROCESS

Assessment

During your first visit, one of our orthotics specialists will thoroughly examine your feet and the rest of your body to have a detailed understanding of your posture, movement, and overall biomechanical functions. Our specialist will also conduct a pathological assessment to determine the exact cause of your feet or body pain and strain.

Through detailed examination, our specialists can determine whether your condition can benefit from orthotics.

Prescription

After examination, your specialist uses the acquired data to determine the right orthotics for you. They help you select the material that best suits your needs and required level of  support, i.e., carbon fiber, plastic polymer, or EVA.

If orthotics will benefit your health or enhance performance, a 3D impression mold of your feet is taken. This enables us to generate custom orthotics that will provide individualized care, improve performance, and address any underlying biomechanical problems.

Custom Manufacture

Studio Athletica provides a personalized treatment approach. This is why we provide custom made orthotics to our clients to ensure that they get the exact foot realignment they require to tackle their ailment and enhance biomechanical functions.

After acquiring 3D impressions of your feet, the results and a prescription for the recommended modifications are sent directly to our trusted orthotics manufacturer. 3D scans are accurate, and they expedite the process.

Depending on the type of orthotics, prices may vary as follows:

  • Basic Orthotics – $350
  • Regular Orthotics – $500
  • Advance Performance Orthotics – $650

Fitting and Follow Up Sessions

After receiving your orthotics from our manufacturer, we schedule a fitting session. During this session, our specialist ensures that the orthotics fit and function as required. Follow up visits are also scheduled every once in a while to assess your overall progress.

WHAT ARE CUSTOM ORTHOTICS?

Custom orthotics are medical devices designed to realign your feet to an anatomically efficient position to correct specific musculoskeletal conditions affecting them.

They are designed to fit an individual’s needs based on their body weight, the condition affecting their feet, and intended use. Unlike over-the-counter orthotics, custom orthotics can correct a broader range of symptoms as they perfectly align with a person’s feet.

Depending on an individual’s needs, custom orthotics can be designed to;

  • Reduce pain in your feet and other parts of the body
  • Provide protection when walking, running, or performing other physical activities
  • Enhance your performance
  • Improve your overall well-being

When wearing custom orthotics for the first time, you might feel a little uncomfortable. After a few weeks, your feet get used to the new alignment, and it becomes comfortable to walk, run, and perform all activities in your custom orthotics.

DO I NEED CUSTOM ORTHOTICS?

If you are experiencing foot pain, imbalances, and abnormal motions, custom orthotics can help alleviate these symptoms by improving your feet biomechanics.

Custom orthotics provide a personalized approach to musculoskeletal issues affecting your feet by providing the necessary adjustments to align them correctly. This eliminates the strain caused to your body and parts of your feet due to misalignment. This in turn relieves pain, enhances performance, and improves normal motion and balance.

Many conditions cause foot pain, imbalance, and other musculoskeletal related issues;custom orthotics can be of help in some of them.

CONDITIONS THAT MAY BENEFIT FROM CUSTOM ORTHOTICS

Plantar fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is the inflammation of the plantar fascia, i.e., the band of ligaments that connect your heel to the front part of your foot. It’s one of the most common causes of heel pain.

Plantar fascia plays several vital roles in the biomechanics of the foot and the overall lower extremities. Some of its functions include:

  • supporting the longitudinal arch of the foot to prevent flattening
  • shock absorption to avert injury to your foot
  • provides efficient gait through the windlass mechanism
  • maintains foot stability and shape

The plantar fascia endures a lot of tension and undergoes wear and tear as we run, walk, or perform other strenuous activities. Too much stress on it irritates its attachment sites and may cause tears within its ligaments, which results in inflammation and pain.

Some of the factors that predispose you to plantar fasciitis are age, obesity, and structural foot problems. Active athletes and individuals with jobs requiring them to stand for long hours are also more likely to develop plantar fasciitis.

Custom orthotics can help treat plantar fasciitis by offering support to the arch of the foot. This reduces pressure on the fascia, promoting faster healing and preventing injury progression.

Unlike over the counter orthotics, custom orthotics are designed to fit specific individual requirements. This means that they distribute your weight as required and provide the support needed for quicker recovery.

Contact Studio Athletica specialists, and they’ll help you recover from plantar fasciitis with the best custom orthotics in the industry.

Bunions

A bunion is a painful bony bump that develops at the base joint of your big toe, causing it to turn at an angle towards the other toes instead of remaining straight. The bump appears due to certain deformities of the foot bones.

Bunions are mostly formed due to structural abnormalities of the foot bones, which is genetic. Other conditions that affect the musculoskeletal system, such as overly flexible ligaments, arthritis, and flat feet, also contribute to the formation of bunions. Injuries to the hip, ankles, or other parts of the musculoskeletal system that affect normal posture or weight distribution to the feet can also lead to bunions.

Smaller bunions, referred to as bunionettes, can also form at the base joint of your little toe. Although bunionettes are smaller compared to the big toe bunions, they are often very excruciating.

Bunions should be managed as soon as they start to form. This involves wearing roomier shoes, physical therapy, and medication to reduce inflammation and pain. When a bunion is too painful or affecting your gait, an orthopedic surgery can be performed to remove the swollen tissue and part of the bone, which corrects the position of the big toe.

Custom orthotics play a vital role in bunion management. They are designed to support the affected toe and distribute weight throughout the rest of the foot. This reduces pressure on the affected toe, halts the bunion’s progression, and relieves pain and inflammation.

Custom orthotics can be used in combination with other intervention treatment methods, including physical therapy and chiropractic treatment. They can also be worn with roomier shoes for comfort when walking or performing other physical activities.

At Studio Athletica, we can help you manage your bunions through custom orthotics and a combination of other treatment options. Contact us to learn more from our specialist.

Metatarsalgia

Metatarsalgia is a condition that affects the ball of the foot, making it inflamed and painful. The ball of the foot is the padded area of your foot. It’s underneath the heads of the metatarsal bones, just before the toes. The metatarsal bones are five bones that connect your toes to the hind tarsal bones.

The causes and predisposing factors of metatarsalgia include:

  • Strenuous activities such as running, jumping, and athletic games that cause extra stress on the metatarsal heads
  • Poorly fitted footwear and high-heeled shoes that stress the metatarsal heads
  • Being overweight or obese
  • Hereditary foot abnormalities such as high arches
  • Bunions
  • Injuries to your feet
  • Inflammatory arthritis
  • Morton’s neuroma

When suffering from Metatarsalgia, custom orthotics can be of great help. They relieve the stress caused to the metatarsal heads or ball of the foot by your body weight or physical activities. This helps reduce inflammation and pain and promotes quicker recovery. It also helps prevents metatarsalgia recurrence.

Our custom orthotics can be used in conjunction with other metatarsalgia treatment regimens, including resting, icing the affected area, and wearing well-fitting shoes.

At Studio Athletica, we provide high-quality custom orthotics to relieve you of any foot discomfort by providing the required realignment and support to your feet. Book an appointment with our specialists to benefit from our advanced orthotic devices.

Bursitis

Bursitis is the inflammation of the bursae.

Bursae are small sacs that contain a small amount of synovial fluid. They are found around the areas where tendons, skin, ligaments, and muscle tissues connect with bones. They provide a cushion between bones and tissue, which reduces friction during movement.

If bursae become irritated and inflamed, they cause pain and discomfort around the affected region. They also limit the flexibility of the affected joints.

Bursitis is commonly caused by injuries inflicted around joints causing damage to bursae. Other factors that may cause bursitis include vigorous sport-related activities, diseases affecting the musculoskeletal system, such as inflammatory arthritis, and bacterial infections.

When the bursae in the heel or toe become irritated, walking and performing other physical activities becomes very distressful. Our custom orthotics are designed to support the affected leg and alleviate the pain and inflammation caused by bursitis. This will reduce recovery time and help you move without much discomfort.

If you’re suffering from bursitis, contact Studio Athletica to benefit from the best custom orthotics in Toronto.

Other conditions that can benefit from our custom orthotics include;

  • Shin splits
  • Heel spurs
  • High arches
  • Injuries to the feet and ankle
  • Hammertoes
  • Flat feet
  • Back pain
  • Inflammatory arthritis
