What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture has several theories about how it works.

One of their beliefs is that inserting needles into certain parts of the body will stimulate the nerves and cause some chemicals to be released, which then changes the way the brain processes pain.

Another theory suggests that acupuncture releases endorphins (the body’s form or natural painkillers) which help reduce discomfort.

And finally, some think that through acupuncture, blood flow improves and immunity strengthens.

A Session With an Acupuncturist at Push Pounds

If you’re considering comprehensive acupuncture treatment, find a licensed practitioner that has received training from an accredited institution. Your acupuncturist will inquire about your medical background and the symptoms you are experiencing during your first session. They will then insert needles into various points on your body. The needles are generally inserted shallowly and produce little discomfort. You may experience a mild numbness or tingling sensation at the site of needle placement.

After the needles have been inserted, they will be left in position for 20-30 minutes while you rest. Some patients experience immediate symptom alleviation following their treatment, while others may require multiple treatments to notice a difference.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

Acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine used for centuries to treat various conditions. The practice involves the insertion of thin needles into the skin at specific points on the body. Acupuncture advocates believe that this can help restore balance and harmony within the body.

There is still some debate as to how exactly acupuncture works.

One theory is that the needles stimulate nerves and release chemicals that help to relieve pain.

Another possibility is that acupuncture helps to improve the flow of energy or Qi within the body.

Whatever the mechanism, some evidence suggests that acupuncture can effectively treat various conditions such as headaches, back pain, and nausea. If you are considering contemporary medical acupuncture, be sure to consult with a qualified practitioner at Push Pounds East York.

Is Acupuncture Safe?

Acupuncture is a traditional Asian medicine that stimulates specific points on the body by inserting thin needles. The practice is generally considered safe and effective when performed by an experienced practitioner.

Although acupuncture therapy  is generally safe, a few potential risks are associated with the treatment. These risks are generally rare and can be minimized by working with a licensed practitioner like one in Push Pounds East York.

Push Pounds is a registered clinic with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario (CTCMPAO).

As a result, our team of highly trained and experienced experts is held to the highest possible standards while delivering effective acupuncture treatments.

Are treatments covered on my benefits/insurance?

All of our therapists are licensed acupuncturists. Our treatments will almost certainly be covered if your insurance plan includes acupuncture. However, each insurance policy is different. Before booking an appointment, check with your employer or insurance provider to see if our services are covered.

The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care passed a bill on April 1, 2013, that made acupuncture an officially regulated profession.

Acupuncturists must first pass examinations and background checks to practice acupuncture lawfully in Ontario. This ensures that patients receive the highest-quality care while undergoing acupuncture therapy.

All therapists and injury rehabilitation experts at the Push Pounds are full members of CTCMPAO, which is in charge of acupuncture laws and practices in Ontario. To work as an acupuncturist in this province, each therapist has an identification number given by the governing body.
