DOT Physical in Ontario

If you’re a commercial driver, you need to be in good health. The Department of Transport medical exam ensures that an individual is medically fit to operate a commercial motor vehicle safely. In the best interest of the public's safety, the standards of emotional, physical, and mental well-being of CMV drivers are higher than passenger vehicle drivers. At Cedar Pointe Chiropractic Group, we offer DOT physical in Ontario. As a leading medical provider, we maintain the latest, extensive knowledge of DOT regulations.

What Happens at Our DOT Physicals?

If you’re wondering, “Can my chiropractor do my DOT physical?” The answer is yes. Here’s what you can expect during our DOT Physical:

  1. Blood Pressure and Pulse Check

When you visit the clinic for a DOT physical, our medical examiner will check your blood pressure and pulse. The blood pressure readings are used to evaluate your heart health. High blood pressure is associated with heart disease and heart attack. This test is quite important as one of the leading causes of sudden death among drivers is heart attack.

  1. Perform A Vision Test

According to the Department of Transportation, a driver should have excellent visual acuity. To pass the DOT test, you should have a visual acuity of 20/40 in each eye with or without corrective lenses.

  1. Examine Your Ears

Our medical examiner at our premier DOT physical walk-in clinic in Ontario will check your ears to make sure that you perceive a “forced whisper” from 5 feet away. The Department of Transportation stipulates that you can pass the exam even if you’re wearing a hearing aid in the other ear.

  1. Brain and Neurological Screening

A person who suffers seizures or epilepsy cannot get the DOT medical card even if it is controlled. That is because there is always a risk of getting seizures and endangering passengers, themselves, and the public. During our DOT physical exam in Ontario, we’ll check your brain for injuries and neurological disorders that can cause seizures.

  1. Test for Drugs

When you come to our DOT physical exam medical card location, you’ll need to undergo a drug test. The Department of Transportation requires this test to ensure that drivers do not use addictive drugs that may compromise their ability to drive and put passengers and other road users in danger. We will require a urine sample to test for cocaine, PCP, opioids, and amphetamines. If you test positive for any of these, you may be interviewed to determine whether there is a valid medical reason for their presence.

  1. Listen to Your Lungs

Poor respiratory function can reduce oxygen supply to major organs. That can adversely affect their functioning. Problems of the respiratory system may be caused by chronic disorders, obesity, or autoimmune disorders. Our DOT medical examiner will listen to your lungs, and if you have asthma, request a separate pulmonary function test.
